La Carta de Oscar directed by María Luz Zamora Abanades
VALENCIA, SPAIN — The 91-minute social and family drama "La Carta de Óscar" (Oscar’s Letter) is scheduled for its commercial premiere in Spain on September 18. Filmed in Valencia, this project represents a significant milestone as the first fiction feature film by María Luz Zamora Abanades, who took on the triple role of director, producer, and screenwriter.
Breaking away from traditional production models, this film was developed as an entirely independent production, completed without external grants or sponsorships. This self-funded approach allowed Zamora to maintain a singular creative vision, building on her previous success with the award-winning short film "Si me ven llorando".
The narrative centers on Óscar (Óscar Marcos), a sensitive child who becomes the silent witness to his parents' crumbling marriage. While Carmen (Carmen Mayordomo) and Ibón (Santiago Sequeiros) are consumed by a crisis of infidelity and betrayal, Óscar endures physical and emotional bullying at school in secret. His hidden suffering is finally brought to light through a revelatory letter that highlights the "invisible pain" children face during adult turmoil.
The production features a distinguished cast, including Rosana Pastor and Paola Dominguín. Visually, the film draws inspiration from contemporary European realism, utilizing natural lighting and a discrete camera to prioritize character intimacy and narrative silences. By using everyday locations like family homes and schools, the "visual universe" reflects the internal isolation of its protagonists.
"La Carta de Óscar" is a poignant exploration of family fragility and the urgent necessity of listening to children's voices
