What did Tserendorj Myagmarjav, Adriana Maria Duello say about his film?

This project originally began as my graduation film. In the early stages, I struggled to find a meaningful idea. I searched for inspiration for weeks, until one day I came across a documentary about the reindeer people. I was immediately captivated by their way of life, deep connection with nature, and unique cultural traditions. As I watched, something resonated deeply within me, and I began sketching rough ideas. The more I drew, the more clearly the story started to take shape.

I wanted the film to be more than just a visual tribute to this fascinating culture—I wanted it to carry emotional weight. That’s when I began weaving in a personal story. The protagonist is a young boy from the reindeer tribe who is dealing with the loss of his father. Through his journey across the harsh, beautiful landscape, he struggles with grief and the search for meaning after such a loss. This emotional arc mirrored my own experience of losing my father at a young age, and the unresolved feelings that followed me into adulthood.

Process

The process of making this film became a healing journey in itself. I finished a version of the film in a year and a half to meet graduation requirements, but I wasn’t satisfied. I continued refining and reworking each shot, and it ultimately took nearly three years to reach the version I had envisioned. I handled every stage of production myself—from pre-production to post-production—with constant creative and emotional support from my girlfriend, who offered invaluable feedback and encouragement.

This film became more than just a student project. It’s a deeply personal exploration of grief, memory, and cultural connection—one that helped me grow as both an artist and a person.
