Umang is inspired by the true story of Umang Galada, a 12 year old boy from Kolkata whose life reflected resilience, talent, and quiet strength. Diagnosed with CKD Stage 5, he endured over a year of uncertainty while waiting for a matching kidney. His story stands apart because, in the face of unimaginable loss, his parents chose voluntary organ donation. The film portrays a deeply personal reality, his mother, a living kidney donor, lost her child yet chose to donate his organs, transforming grief into hope. Shot in his own home with his real family, Umang blurs cinema and reality, highlighting courage, sacrifice, and the urgent need for organ donation awareness in India.
