Our film, Sanitised Republic, tells the representative story of sanitation workers who, risking their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic, were abruptly fired from Kalawati Saran Hospital and Lady Harding Medical College and subsequently protested in the heart of Delhi, India, for over a year. Sarfaraz, Sunita, and Sewak Ram, the film depicts the struggles of over 450 workers. It also recounts the tragic story of Ruqaiya, who died while treating COVID patients. The film exposes the connection between caste and contractual work, highlighting how justice is denied to marginalised working-class communities. Sanitised Republic challenges systemic inequalities, urging viewers to confront invisible labour. Through intimate storytelling, it amplifies silenced voices, inspiring global conversations on dignity and rights.
