On 24th February 2022, Russia resumed its invasion of Ukraine. Indian medical students, focused on their education and careers, didn’t expect their universities in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Kyiv to become war zones. While civilians fled, most students stayed. Soon, air raid sirens wailed, classes were canceled, and fighter jets roared above. Curfews were imposed, and students sheltered in cramped bunkers with scarce food, light, and internet. Around 20–30 students squeezed into dingy rooms and corridors. They sent SOS videos and messages to families and authorities. Unable to reach borders, they were told to stay underground until rescue or a safe evacuation plan was arranged.
